Create a crocus display which really stands out from the crowd! Crocus chrysanthus are renowned for their exquisite bi-colour combinations, and this pair are an exceptional example. Crocus ‘Panda’ has dramatic deep purple and white flowers whilst ‘Queen Bee’ comes in a dazzling burgundy and gold. Planted together, they make a striking combination.
Crocus ‘Panda’ and Crocus ‘Queen Bee’ are both types of Snow Crocus (Crocus chrysanthus), and as their name suggests, they are one of the earliest Crocus to flower. Come February they’ll be bravely pushing their heads above ground, instantly brightening the bare winter landscape with their luminous blooms. Their intricate, feathered patterning deserves close inspection, and they make an excellent addition to containers, either on their own or combined with winter evergreens and other spring bulbs.
Although smaller than the large Dutch types, Crocus chrysanthus spread more rapidly, so they are also perfect for naturalising in grass, drifting through borders and rock gardens or edging walkways. They’re great for creating colour and interest beneath trees and shrubs before they come into leaf. Despite their jewel-like appearance, these bulbs are really tough and once planted will reward year after year with no effort.
Height: 15cm (6in). Spread: 5cm (2in).
